Descrizione
Palazzo Nuovo or Giuliani-Marcabruni is located in the main square of Arco, Piazza III Novembre, opposite the entrance of the collegiate church. The name Palazzo Nuovo or ‘Domus Nova’ was the name that Count Francesco d’Arco gave to his palace in the village. He chose the main square. Count Francesco was the first to want a palace.
The palace is mentioned in 1462 and in other writings of 14779 is reported the discussion that took place under the arcades of the new house of Francis. The arcades were used as a place of public judgment and encounter. They are not the porticoes that there are now. On a corner of the palace after 1512, is placed a boundary stone between the two parts in which the county of Arco is divided. The square on the west side of the building became the Piazzetta del Termine. After Francesco Odorico and Geronimo d’Arco were the owners.
In 1752 Giorgio d’Arco gave the building to Dr. Saverio Marcabruni, who began the renovation work. The porticoes are made with the balcony above. The ground floor is adapted for the construction of shops. It later became the property of the Giuliani family. The palace has a large internal courtyard paved with river pebbles, on which overlook internal stone balconies. The stone portal on the south side, has the oldest version of the arms of the d’Arco: a single arch, placed vertically. The building belongs in part to the City that has placed the historical archive, after the renovation took place between 1993 and 1996.
