Descrizione
The church of San Floriano is located in Bolognano, a hamlet of the town of Arco. It is a cemetery church and dates back to the thirteenth century.
History
The church is erected in the upper part of the village of Bolognano, near the cemetery. It is mentioned for the first time in a parchment of 1267. The appearance of today, however, dates back to the second half of the sixteenth century as a structure. During some works, around the church are found finds dating back to the Bronze Age and the Roman period.
It is demolished because it is no longer adequate to the needs of the faithful. The new church was rebuilt in the second half of the sixteenth century. Documents report that in 1580 the yard was opened and this is witnessed by the writings engraved on the external walls. There are some dates related to that period, until 1592.
In the first decades of the following century the sacristy was almost certainly enlarged and in 1636 the prince bishop of Trento Carlo Emanuele Madruzzo celebrated its solemn consecration.
In 1708 the building, which had problems related to moisture infiltration along the walls, was repainted. The situation that produced such infiltration, however, was not resolved for a long time because the problem arose again, according to data in the documents visited, until 1829 and even beyond.
Since 1980 the building, for a long time in a state of almost neglect, was the subject of several conservative restoration interventions that involved repeated work on the roof cover with an important consolidation of its structure and also the coverage of the bell tower.
The church of San Floriano
The church is oriented to the south-east. It has a bell-shaped façade with oculus. The sides have exposed stone buttresses. The bell tower is on the right and is illuminated by four pointed mullioned windows. The interior has a large nave. There are two mirrored chapels with a central entrance arch that open in the second of the three bays, turned to cruise. The presbytery, elevated on a step, is covered with the apse by an umbrella vault.
