Descrizione

The Church of San Francesco da Paola was built in 1748. It’s built after the Magnificent Community of Oltresarca donated to a group of religious a meadow and woodland on Mount Velo. The building is financed by some faithful, with the support of the counts Giuseppe and Emanuele d’Arco. It was used in the summer by the population dedicated to haymaking and grazing.

The church is oriented towards the southeast. Outside and inside it has a very simple structure. A facade with two sloping, smooth sides, a rectangular window on the facade and one on the right side. The bell tower is on the left. The small presbytery is one step higher than the nave; the first is covered by a cross vault, the second by a barrel vault.

History

On 21 May 1741 the Magnificent Community of Oltresarca gave Don Nicolò Morandi and other religious “a piece of grassy land with woods” on Mount Velo, to erect a church dedicated to San Francesco di Paola. The building is built after obtaining the license in 1748. In the same year, on 4 September 1748 the church is blessed by Giacomo Morandi, archpriest of Arco. Between 1824 and 1828 the roof and the bell tower were replaced. A real renovation of the church took place in 1927. Between the autumn of 1991 and the spring of 1992 the church of San Francesco da Paola was renovated by a committee of volunteers.
