Descrizione
The Casa del Dazio is located in the port of Torbole sul Garda. A location to leave you breathless. This building was the seat of the Customs, or the seat of the Austric Customs. It was built in the early eighteenth century. The Austrian customs officers, present on site, used the house of the Customs to keep the boats moored there. There were not only their boats but also those of the local fishermen and the merchants’ boats. Now the structure is private.
In this evocative location, poets and painters such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Hans Lietzmann decided to spend some periods of their life in Torbole, where they found the lifeblood for their works. Lietzmann lived for more than 50 years in Torbole, dying in 1955.
In the work “Viaggio in Italia di Johann Wolfgang von Goethe” who wrote between 1813 and 1817 is mentioned Torbole exactly on September 12, 1786 when he arrived on the lake descending from Nago on foot along the road of Santa Lucia which at the time was the only way to connect the Adige valley with Lake Garda.
