Descrizione
Piazzetta Craffonara is located in via Mazzini in Riva del Garda. It was the seat of the ancient oratory of Santa Croce, equipped with a porch and relevant buildings of its brotherhood. During the bombing of the city the church was destroyed. The new square was inaugurated on 6 July 1930 to a design by Giancarlo Maroni (1893-1952).
Now it houses the reproduction of a fresco depicting the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The work is by the artist Giuseppe Craffonara Rivano (1790-1832) and comes from the late Dobarocca chapel of Santa Croce. In a niche carved in the wall a bas-relief by the sculptor Francesco Trentini depicts the Craffonara. In the center there is a stele in memory of the Chapel of the Good Death and a copy of a beautiful marble tank of the first century D. C.. The original pool is kept in the Riva del Garda Museum. On the wall of the church are walled a tombstone of the Zanardi family of the fifteenth century and the coat of arms of the Riccamboni family.
