The building is a bastion, dominating the Lower Sarca from Monte Englo. It constitutes a particular example of Renaissance military construction from the early sixteenth century. Built by will of Venice, also with the contribution of the Municipality, between 1507 and 1509. It had the function of controlling the land routes from the north towards the lake and defending the town center from above. Its structure, restored by the autonomous Province of Trento between 2006 and 2007, was organized on three floors. During the restoration, the spiral shape of the summit emerged as particularly interesting, as can be clearly seen from a painting preserved in the Museum of Riva del Garda, where the Bastion is portrayed in its entirety.
