The viewpoint of lovers is located in Riva del Garda, exactly at the beginning of the ponale. It’s a place that’s accessible to everyone and really special because of its location.
Itinerary
The route starts from the city center of Riva del Garda. Departure from the center, from Piazza III Novembre overlooking Lake Garda. With the Apponale tower behind you head towards the lake. Skirting the edge you get to the second square, Piazza Catena.
At the end of the square continue and take the pavement along the western Gardesana. On the right the imposing building of the hydroelectric power plant of Riva del Garda. Central that is fed by the water of the Ledro lake. You walk for a few minutes and you always stay on the sidewalk.
Keep the tunnel to your right and always walk on the sidewalk, left Lake Garda. Turn right and climb. Turn right again and start the path of the ponale.
Walk on paved ground then keep left in front of the first gallery. A few steps and here is the viewpoint of lovers.
You don’t need many words to understand why. I stop to take some pictures and as always I am enchanted by this viewpoint.
History of the viewpoint of lovers
The viewpoint of lovers is one of the most romantic places in the area. The Emperor of Austria, Franz Joseph in 1852 wanted to walk the road at night to admire the city of Riva del Garda and the road of the ponale in tranquility. Ponale road opened the year before by Giacomo Cis. The emperor decided to climb it at night and without escort.
