Descrizione
The castle of Tenno is located in Tenno. It is located in a strategic position. It was erected on a promontory south of the village of Tenno on the road that leads from Lake Garda to the Valli Giudicarie.
The Tenno Castle was built at the end of the twelfth century on the ruins of a prehistoric castle. The castle of Tenno is part of a fortified village, the village of Frapporta.
This is very strange. Only cases in Arco and Riva are known.
Originally the castle belonged to the community. Later it passed into the hands of several families including that of Appiano.
In 1211 it became property of the bishopric of Trento. It remained of the bishopric until the Napoleonic age, when it was occupied and looted. After this time a period of decay began. It was bought by private individuals who, following some vain attempts to save the original medieval form, transformed the building into a residence.
In 1920 it collapsed and then the central tower of the castle of Tenno was demolished. It was the only medieval element left.
The castle of Tenno today retains residential buildings and walls.
Currently the manor of Tenno is privately owned. It can not be visited except in particular events related to the town of Tenno.
