Descrizione
The church of San Giacomo Maggiore is located in Vigne, a hamlet in the municipality of Arco.
History
The first news of the church dates back to 1579, of the pastoral visit where the presence of a chapel dedicated to San Giacomo is documented. Towards the end of the 18th century, the bell tower was built in 1797 after the arrival of Napoleon’s troops.
In the early 20th century the previous building was demolished and rebuilt, enlarging its dimensions. The part of the presbytery is modified and ends with a semicircular apse.
In 1919, at the end of the First World War, the church was blessed. In 1942 it became a parish church and the solemn consecration took place after the end of the Second World War, in 1947.
The church was restored between 1971 and 1973. Restoration works concerning the roof covering, the flooring of the room, the painting of the entire building, the renovation of the systems and the installation of the new windows.
Description
The church of San Giacomo Maggiore is located in the square of the small hamlet of Vigne. Its orientation is north-east. The façade is in neoclassical style with four pilasters supporting the large triangular pediment. At the portal with architraves it is accessed by a short staircase of five steps and in the centre, at the top, there is the large oculus which brings light to the room. The bell tower, which is the oldest structure of the temple, stands back on the right.
The church has a single internal nave divided into three bays. The hall is enlarged by two symmetrical chapels and the presbytery is slightly raised.
