Descrizione
Church of San Giuseppe is located in Arco at the beginning of Via Segantini, a few meters from the Sarca river and the Arco bridge.
The church of San Giuseppe was built towards the end of the sixteenth century by order of Vinciguerra, Count of Arco. In 1694 a buttress was built to support the church. In 1840 the bell tower of the church was renovated and in 1862 the two windows of the presbytery were opened. Urgent renovation work took place in 1892 and two years later, in 1894, the interior of the church was adorned with a cycle of wall paintings dedicated to Saint Joseph. Paintings made by Agostino Aldi. Between 1920 and 1946 the church underwent two renovations as well as in 1982. From 1982 to 2001 the church was closed, and on 14 October 2001 it was opened by the San Giuseppe Celebration Committee. From 2003 to 2006 it underwent a complete conservative intervention and was opened on 19 March 2006.
Description
The church is located at the beginning of via Segantini, one of the main streets of Arco and is close to the bridge over the Sarca river.
The city walls once stood next to the building. The orientation is south. The main portal has an architrave and above it is the large oculus which brings light into the room. The bell tower rises on the right of the building.
Inside there is a single nave with cross vaults enriched by nineteenth-century frescoes by Agostino Aldi. The presbytery is raised and on the sides of the niche that adorns the main altar there are two single-lancet windows with polychrome glass.
