Descrizione

The church of San Giuseppe is located in Riva del Garda in the neighborhood named after Alcide Degasperi. The church was built to serve the Riva del Garda neighborhood named after Alice Degasperi in 1966. The first stone was laid on May 1st. The project is by the architect from Arco, Camillo Zucchelli. The construction of the church lasted 1 year and the testing took place on November 18, 1971.

In designing the church of San Giuseppe, the architect Camillo Zucchelli was inspired by church of San Giovanni Battista built by Giovanni Michelucci.

The church is also called the church of the Autostrada del Sole due to its location at the crossroads between the Autostrada del Sole and the A11 Firenze-Mare, or more simply church of the Autostrada.

The completion of the bell tower of the church of San Giuseppe was designed in 1998 by the engineer Pietro Matteotti and built between 12 June and 12 October 2000.

The church

The church has a central plan structure with a spiral development and is made of reinforced concrete, with a hyperbolic paraboloid roof and a bell tower made up of four pillars tapering upwards; it includes an upper and lower hall, one on top of the other, and the parish complex, connected by a ring-shaped covered portico and an internal garden. The upper hall, elliptical in shape, has the presbytery raised on a circular platform and the area intended for the faithful with an amphitheater layout. The upper room is used only in rare cases given its size. The lower hall, conceived as a crypt and weekday chapel in the original project, now has the role of a parish church.
