The Adige-Garda gallery is located in the municipality of Nago Torbole. The outlet of the tunnel is just after the village of Torbole on the road towards Malcesine.
A bit of History
The Adige-Garda tunnel designed to pour into Lake Garda the excess waters of the Adige river during flooding. This idea avoided the danger of flooding for the Adige valley and the city of Verona. In drawing a line between the river Adige and Lake Garda the tunnel passes under the Loppio lake.
During the works the main and also the groundwater connected to it is intercepted. In a short time the lake empties without filling.
The works for the construction of the work last 6 years in total but divided into two moments. The first part of the works began in 1939 and ended in 1940. During the Second World War, in 1943 the tunnel was used for war production. The side used was towards Torbole. Work resumed from 1954 to 1959.
