Incorporated in the building built in 1475 that unites the Palazzo Pretorio with the Palazzo Municipale, it was the gateway between Piazza San Rocco and Piazza di Riva, in memory of the ancient perimeter of the walls that closed the city. The restoration work commissioned by Baruffaldi in the mid-nineteenth century kept the medieval setting in the lower part, while the opening of windows above the gate and the crowning were the major innovations.
