Vital center of the ancient city, the port of Riva had to appear with piers and dividing structures, if documents since the Middle Ages distinguish three areas called with the names of the places from which the goods landed (Desenzano, Torbole and Lazise). However, until the end of the nineteenth century there was a great traffic of all kinds of goods, from woolen clothes to cattle and timber, to pottery and dishes from the valleys to cereals that flowed from Desenzano and headed north. An urban intervention of 1850 gave order to the port. In the square is now visible the Baroque statue of San Giovanni Nepomuceno of 1753, located where until the 1930s stood the Palazzo del Dazio.
