Descrizione
It was probably erected at the beginning of the thirteenth century by a noble family of Rivana, the Bonvicini. Located on the main road of communication between Ponale and Brione, it was used to control the most important port of the city, the west one. Hence the name of the tower. It was elevated in 1555 and at the beginning of the twentieth century the onion roof was removed and replaced with a four-pitched roof. On the tower there is a clock, which recalls a similar example documented in the fifteenth century and a bronze bell, “the Renga” that rings only on special occasions. On the summit there is a wind clock, the Anzolim de la Tor, popular symbol of the city. At the foot of the tower until the mid-nineteenth century there was the Caffè dei Nobili. You can visit the Apponale Tower.
